India Got Closer To Final After Beating Sri Lanka |
|
|
The Indian cricket team has got a whispering win over Sri Lanka in the ongoing tri-series in Australia, as they beat their neighbours by 2 wickets in the final over of the match. The two experienced campaigners of the Indian side, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh played important roles to achieve the target of 239 runs set by Sri Lanka, batting first. With this win at the Adelaide Oval, India is on the second position of the point table at the moment and it seems a bit easy for them to make it into the finals of the CB Series now.
Batting first in the match, the Sri Lankan batsmen were facing troubles right from the beginning, as the Indian bowlers continued their good form in this match. Sri Lanka lost both their openers at a score of only 6 runs and was struggling hard in front of the bowling of the Indian opening bowlers. Then, the two most experienced batsmen of Sri Lanka, skipper Mahela and wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara put on a wonderful partnership of 53 runs in 35 overs to recover from the early disasters. Both the batsmen played nicely and India got the break through when Jayawardene got run out while the bowler deflected the ball on to the stumps at the bowler`s end. Sri Lanka faced a lot of troubles with the run outs in this match as two other batsmen including Jayasuriya also got run out. However, with the help of a brilliant hundred by Sangakkara, Sri Lanka put on a total score of 238 runs from the stipulated 50 overs.
In reply to the total of Sri Lanka, the Indian team also failed to get a good start as the veteran batsman, Sachin Tendulkar got out to a Malinga delivery without scoring a run. The other opener Gautam Gambhir played well for sometime and he also got out cheaply after a while from Tendulkar`s dismissal. The Indian top order kept on facing problems with the Sri Lankan bowlers` bowling, however, the skipper Dhoni and the vice-captain Yuvraj put on a good partnership to help their team achieve the target. Both played nicely and Yuvraj was more aggressive among them.
Yuvraj Singh played a wonderful innings of 76 runs to get back his form and Dhoni also accompanied him very well to remain unbeaten on 50 runs. The Dhoni-Yuvraj partnership was the decisive factor of the match and that really ensured victory for India in the match. The young and talented batsman Rohit Sharma also played well after the departure of Yuvraj Singh and made a crucial partnership of 64 runs with Dhoni. Though the Lankan bowlers tried hard and got some wickets in the lower order of the Indian innings that was not enough to restrict India from getting the winning run on the first ball of the final over.
