Caparo Will Supply Body Structures For Tata Nano

The major auto component suppliers of UK, Caparo has recently announced that it is going to build the body structures of the world`s cheapest car Tata Nano launched in January at India Auto Expo. In a recent statement, the company has stated that it would press and assemble about 60% of the car`s inner structural panels and it would do so in a new facility in Singur, near the first Tata Nano assembly plant. The company also said that Tata would manufacture the rest of the 40% of the panels.

The CEO of the Caparo Group, Mr. Angad Paul said that they have already installed a new semi-automated production line with zero fault forward quality control systems, in order to meet Tata`s ambitious cost targets. He added, "The body technology is relatively conventional, but the manufacturing technology is the result of very sophisticated analysis to ensure high-quality, low cost production". While commenting on getting the contract from the Tata Motors, the Country Head for Caparo India, Mr. Sunil Pahilajani said that they have got the order as they got success with a similar contract to supply the Suzuki Maruti 800.

Caparo Will Supply Body Structures For Tata Nano In the words of Mr. Pahilajani, "We have been delivering to plants in India at zero ppm for three years". He also said that Caparo is also supplying Indian plants for the leading automobile companies like Ashok Leyland, Eicher Motors, JCB, John Deere and Hero Honda and also for most of the manufacturers of two- and three-wheeled vehicles. The sources from the Indian automotive industry have informed that the Caparo Vehicle Products is a specialist in precision-formed and lightweight metal products that include stampings, forgings, machining, aluminium castings and tubing. The company also specializes in a wide range of complementary products and services like the carbon composites, fasteners and module build.
