`Annam`- The Good Food Movement Launched |

The organisations like Slow Food International, Italy, Navadany New Delhi and the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), have jointly started a new food movement named as `Annam` on Monday. The sources informed that this new food movement has been initiated in order to check the growth of the `fast food` culture and also to preserve and promote the local and traditional food items of India.
According to the sources, the initiative is seeking to educate the consumers about the risks of fast food and create awareness about the drawbacks of factory farms and promoting the location specific vegetables and crops is also among the main objectives of the new movement. While commenting on the movement, the General Secretary of CISS, Mr. C Sureshkumar said, "There is an urgent need for a food revolution to replace the industrialized factory model highly processed food, with a sustainable system of safe and nutritious food that is ethically produced". He added that the slow and steady shift to the new trends in eating was destroying the vital and vibrant food culture that was is existence for ages in the state.
Mr. Sureshkumar was also talking about the other principal objectives of the organisation and said that the organisation would also take up the issues that are related to the problems caused by genetic seeds and also by the use of chemical pesticides in farming. The renowned environmentalist, Ms. Vandana Shiva also expressed her views on the new movement named `Annam` and said, "Wherever non-renewable seeds have entered, the suicide rate of farmers in these areas is high". She also informed that most of the incidents of farmers` suicides were found in those areas where the farmers were dependent on the genetic seeds.
