5th National Winter Games Started At Gulmarg

The Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has inaugurated the 5th National Winter Games in Gulmarg on Monday. Mr. Azad has given a hearty promise on behalf of the state government that they would provide a massive infrastructure for revamping the ski resort on the sports map of the world. The inaugural function has got a glittering and impressive performance from the skydivers of the Indian Air Force. The organisers of the event have informed that the events will be starting from 19th February and will end on 22nd February.

While inaugurating the 5th National Winter Games, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "It is through events like these that the revival of Kashmir tourism can be achieved". The organisers informed that a number of athletes from the different parts of the country and also from the Indian Army and the Air Force have already arrived there in Gulmarg and they will be competing with each other in the events like alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure staking and ice hockey.

5th National Winter Games Started At Gulmarg The sources from Gulmarg have informed that apart from the athletes and the organisers, a huge number of domestic and foreign tourists have also gathered there for witnessing the Games. The sources said that Gulmarg was selected as the venue for the events as it is situated about 9,000 feet above the sea level and there is also over five feet of snow on the ground at the moment. The organisers have defined Gulmarg as an ideal venue for the winter sports and they also believe that this is going to be a very good omen for the games. The sources added that the President of the Indian Olympic Association, Mr. Suresh Kalmadi was also present at the inaugural function.
