Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) officials have nabbed two persons taking bets on India-England T20 match from a hotel room in Ellisbridge on Sunday night.
On questioning, it is known that they said that they had come from Jamnagar for betting in Ahmedabad.
The PCB officials said that they worked on information and raided the hotel where they found Jayesh Ganatra, a resident of Sarvamangal Apartment, and Dipak Chudasama, resident of Vikas Colony, both residents of Jamnagar. A laptop with internet connectivity, six mobile phones and Rs 40,000 in cash were found with him.
According to a PCB official, "The men were taking bets from the city and state on India-England match in the ongoing T20 world cup. They were using several betting sites to quote rates. We are yet to get the exact amount that they took bets on. The amount recovered from them was also paid by city-based gamblers."
Later, the officials handed the accused to Ellisbridge police station for further investigation. They said that there are good chances that the duo was earlier involved in similar offences and visited the city frequently. They chose a nondescript hotel to evade any unnecessary attention, said officials.
