Bhutia declares his battle with Mohun Bagan officials as `dharma yudh`

Baichung Bhutia, India`s finest footballer has described his tussle with Mohun Bagan officials as a battle between `good and evil forces`. He added that he was confident `good` would prevail over `evil`.

Earlier, the West Bengal Chief Minister had described the 2006 CAB presidential election as a `dharma yudh` in which former police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee had challenged the tainted Jagmohan Dalmiya. Mukherjee had lost that battle closely, prompting the CM to say that the `fight` would continue.

Speaking about the six-month suspension, Baichung said that he had complete faith in IFA as well as AIFF and hoped justice would be done to him. But he made it clear that if the matter wasn`t resolved, he would prefer not to play for any club in the coming season rather than don the green-and-maroon jersey again.

The Indian footballer said, "I have been suspended for six months without pay. If they can do this to a senior player, just think what they can do to juniors or newcomers. I will fight this to the end. Even if I have to go without pay for a year, I am game for it."

He added that his `fight` was not against Mohun Bagan, but against a couple of `publicity-crazy and egoistic` officials who are giving the institution a bad name.

Baichung added, "These are the people who say that no player is greater than the institution. I agree completely, but are such club officials above the institution? I won`t be surprised if these officials soon start awarding the `Mohun Bagan Ratna` to themselves."

Baichung has been accused of skipping training to shoot for the TV show. He reiterated that he had taken permission from the coach and officials before signing up for the contest. He said, "Had I not done so, any club/coach would have consigned me to the bench. I was fielded in every match and helped my team to the best of my ability."

He felt "the real reason" behind the malicious attitude of Bagan officials was his no-show at an exhibition match in Jalpaiguri.

He further added, "They are unnecessarily linking the Jhalak contest with this match, which was organised at the behest of a club official, who has made it a prestige issue."
