A R Rahman receives Hon D. Lit from Aligarh Muslim University |

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has conferred Indian Music sensation AR Rahman Hon D. The University also awarded D. Lit to Gopichand Narang, a world famous Urdu language expert.
Earlier this year, the music maestro has won many accolades with his music in the Hollywood film on Indian theme Slumdog Millionaire. The film has done business worth hundreds of millions of dollars and has won all the leading awards including several Oscars.
AR rahman bagged two Oscars for his music scores in the film. Since then he has been constantly in news for one thing or the other.
AR Rahman has won all the known awards for his music including Oscars. He also received the Mauritius National Award and the Malaysian Award 1995 for contributions to music. He was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for his first West-End production.
A four time National Film Award winner and conferred the Padma Shri from the Government of India, Rahman has received six awards for Best Music at the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and eleven awards for his scores at the Filmfare and Filmfare Awards South each. He received an honorary award from Stanford University for contributions to global music in 2006.
Rahman is also winner of a 2008 Critics Choice Awards for Best Composer. He also became the first Indian national to win a Golden Globe, winning for Slumdog Millionaire in the category of Best Original Score
The music maestro said, "It is ironical that what the west calls the dark ages was one of the brightest spots in the history of Islam. Sadly the picture has changed today. Muslims are no longer perceived at the forefront of humanity`s quest for progress and development."
AR Rahman was born actually as Dileep Kumar on the 6th of January in the year 1966 in Chennai. His father was a known musician but dies the day when the first film he had composed hit the theatres. AR was only 11 years at that time.
