|
The city of Ahmedabad has observed Tata Indicom fashion weekend from Monday April 27, through April 28, 2009 between 5-8pm everyday at the Hutheesing Visual Art Centre, CEPT Campus, opposite Gujarat University.
The textile and design capital of India takes the pride to have organised a national fashion event of its own with the launch of the Tata Indicom Fashion Weekend here. Fourteen of the country`s brightest talents in Indian fashion showcased and presented their creativity to the fashionista`s of the city.
Ahmedabad witnessed the `hot of the runway` collections from these exclusively hand picked 14 designers for the first time. These designs were showcased at the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week and Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Weeks.
Umang Hutheesing., the chief patron of the event stated, "I am confident that the glamour and style quotient will come of age and Ahmedabad with its textile and design history will shine again on the World`s fashion map. This truly exciting property of `Ahmedabad Fashion Weekend` that we have created will be held twice a year, year on year."
Meeta Phulwani, city based fashion entrepreneur and the moving force in establishing the event, said, "It`s a great privilege to play the catalyst`s role in hosting the first ever Tata Indicom Ahmedabad Fashion Weekend. It`s a new beginning. And here I am presenting to the design world a new platform which I am sure will grow in the years to come. Ahmadavadis have always had a taste of good things in life, and today we launch another avenue for them to explore the best in fashion industry."
Speaking on the association of Tata Indicom as a presenting sponsor of the maiden Tata Indicom Ahmedabad Fashion Weekend, Mr. Naveen Bhasin COO, Tata Teleservices, Gujarat, stated, "We at Tata Indicom have taken various endeavours to communicate to the youth with modes of language, music, art and now fashion. As we are moving towards the modern era, it is extremely essential to revive the heritage and bridge the gap between the modern hip and happening youth of today and our ancient art and culture which seems to have been forgotten. Hence TATA Indicom is here to further establish connect and create a harmonious amalgamation in the fashion industry."
Leading fashion consultant and impresario Ramesh Menon, who put together the designer ensemble for the event, emphasised the need to bring the designer fraternity and the growing domestic market closer with each other. He added, "Events like these are the ideal platform to further the cause. Fashion weekends would be an extension of the fashion weeks in Mumbai and Delhi."
Menon further added, "Fashion weeks in India celebrate 10 years of existence. Yet over the years, it has remained a Delhi Mumbai affaire with Indian fashion and its young design talent yet to proliferate into the high potential cities of India. From Chandigarh to Ahmedabad, Bangalore to Kolkata, Nagpur to Coimbatore the true Indian market is awaiting in these cities. The idea behind the fashion weekend is two fold, one to expose the best of Indian fashion to the huge potential of the domestic market and on the other to showcase and educate consumers across the country that fashion is not the preserve of the elite."
