Obese people are at higher risk of urinary tract infections

Researchers have found that obese people are at higher risk of getting urinary tract infection (UTI).

The researchers studied insurance claims of 95,962 people over a five-year period (from 2002 through 2006) to identify whether obesity is associated with a UTI diagnosis. As per the study results, BMI (body mass index, measure of one`s weight in relation to height) increased the frequency of being diagnosed with a UTI increased as well, according to the American Urological Association (AUA).

Obese people are at higher risk of urinary tract infections Anthony Y. Smith, AUA spokesman said, "The effect of the obesity epidemic in the US transcends any one medical speciality or condition. Patients with elevated body mass index should be vigilant about urologic health because even the most simple of urinary tract infections can be deadly if left untreated."
