Kerala Tourism plans to start destination specialist programme |
|
|
Kerala Tourism is planning to launch a destination specialist programme for international source markets, making it the first State Tourism Board (STB) in India to start such initiative.
In the next three months, the destination specialist programme will be launched on an online platform. At present, Kerala Tourism is working on the details of the programme. The destination specialist programme for Kerala will enable the state to increase destination awareness in the international source markets. This will finally lead to more traffic into Kerala and also enable Kerala Tourism to build a database of loyal suppliers who promote Kerala.
Dr. Venu V, Secretary, Kerala Tourism, informed, "The destination specialist programme has been on the agenda for quite sometime for Kerala Tourism. Apart from launching it in the international markets, we are also considering the launch of Kerala destination specialist programme for the domestic market. We are evaluating the possibility as course content for international and domestic markets will be different."
Some other states like West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand also showed keen interest in introducing a destination specialist programme.
T V N Rao, MD, West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation said, "State specialist programme is an excellent idea to promote various facets of a state on domestic and global level. We are first figuring out the segments (like Tea Tourism, wildlife, fairs and festivals, etc.) which we will like to promote the most in international and domestic markets. Once we are done with that we might consider starting this programme by next year, but nothing is concrete at the moment."
Officials from Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation and Jharkhand Tourism are also open to the idea of starting a destination specialist programme.
