IIFA 2009 awards function to be held in Macau

International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2009 awards function is going to be held in Macau. IIFA awards are given away in India`s booming Hindi film industry better known as Bollywood.

The Macau Special Administrative Region commonly known as Macau or Macao is one of the two special administrative regions of the People`s Republic of China, the other being Hong Kong.

Macau lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province in the north and facing the South China Sea in the east and south. The territory has thriving industries such as textiles, electronics and toys, and a notable tourist industry.

IIFA organisers announced to hold the tenth edition of IIFA at the Venetian Resort in presence of IIFA brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan and government representatives of Macau.

On this, Big B wrote on his blog saying, "The press conference is to announce the next IIFA. The Macau Venetian Hotel and Resort is what it is going to be a small state by itself, even though it is controlled or technically controlled by mainland China, with a large tourist attraction."

IIFA has always promoted the business of Indian Cinema and provided it an impetus. The sale of tickets of Hindi cinema grew by thirty five percent in the UK in the six months after IIFA. In South Africa, Hindi films moved from matinee shows on weekends to mainline theatres and now there are competing distribution chains vying for the rights to exhibit Hindi films across Africa.

IIFA 2009 awards function to be held in Macau In Malaysia, there was an increase in the value of rights for Indian Cinema and the collection from exhibition and sale of non-pirated DVDs increased by more than 50 percent. The number of Indian visitors to Malaysia has risen by 35 percent and Indian occupancy at Genting Highlands rose by 190 percent in the year after IIFA. In 2004, the doors were opened for Indian filmmakers to film in Singapore.
