Tourism dept. of Jammu & Kashmir to develop new tourism destinations |

The Department of Tourism (DoT), Government of Jammu and Kashmir is planning to develop new tourism destinations Bangus, Aharbal, Gurez, Zanskar, Nobra, Baderwah, Poonch and Rajouri etc in the state.
The department also plans to develop various tourism activities related to Adventure Tourism in these areas and also create campsites and offer basic infrastructures at these destinations.
Farooq Shah, Director Tourism, Kashmir provided all these information. Shah was in New Delhi yesterday to attend a B2B travel trade fair. During the fair, DoT, Government of Jammu and Kashmir organised a press conference and displayed a presentation on Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu. The conference was attended by Tanveer Jahan, Secretary Tourism, Jammu and Kashmir; Rafiq Qadiri, Managing Director, Jammu Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) and various tour operators from India and abroad.
Jahan stated that DoT, Government of Jammu and Kashmir is also planning to open about seven new trekking areas in the state. She further said that they will get the security forces to clear some trekking areas, which are currently closed due to security reasons. She also informed that tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is safe and peaceful.
The tourism department has decided to organise a FAM trip involving 20 travel agents from different parts of India soon in order to promote tourism in the state. Jahan further mentioned that the department is also planning to soon organise an Adventure Tourism Convention in the state this year. The Adventure Tourism Convention may be organised by the tourism department`s initiative or through Adventure Tourism Associations in India.
Mary Souli Kafkio, Managing Director, Cel Tours, and an Athens-based destination management company said that Jammu and Kashmir is absolutely safe and they have organised various tours to this region. She further stated that last year it had sent a group of 200 Greek tourists to this region, and is planning to organise more group tours to this region. She informed that due to the elections this year, it has stopped sending tourist groups temporarily and will start immediately after the elections.
Kafkio added, "We were promoting Kashmir and Ladakh in a big way earlier and are now also planning to promote Jammu. We are one of the largest destination companies that promote Jammu and Kashmir in Greece in a big way."
Jahan also presented an award to Cell Tours for promoting Jammu and Kashmir in a big way. Shah then added that state has vast potential in tourism and is planning to develop it as an all season destination.
