Rajasthan High Court issues notice to IPL chairman Lalit Modi |

The Rajasthan High Court on Friday issued a notice to Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi seeking explanation for leaving the country without its permission.
At present, Lalit Modi is in South Africa for IPL2 matches. The order came on a bail cancellation application filed by Sandeep Bhatra of the Nagrik Morcha Sansthan.
Bhatra filed an FIR against Modi in August 2008 for not paying the promised amount of Rs 6 crore to the CM`s relief fund for aid of Jaipur blast victims. The court had granted bail to Modi provided that he will not leave India without its permission.
The Rajasthan High Court Friday issued Lalit Modi a notice asking why his bail should not be cancelled in a cheating case as he did not take due permission from the court before leaving India.
Justice S.P. Pathak issued the notice after hearing a petition filed by NGO Nagrik Morcha, which moved the application on April 22. The court asked Modi to explain his reason for leaving India without permission.
The Indian Premier League chairman, Mr. Lalit Modi (in photo), is under the legal scanner once again, this time for allegedly leaving the country without seeking the approval of Rajasthan High Court. He received anticipatory bail in a cheating case lodged in Jaipur.
Mr. AK Jain, senior High Court lawyer representing the non-government organisation battling Mr. Modi said, "The court granted him bail under Section 438 of Cr Pc and it stated that he could not leave the country without the approval of the court."
