Nano bookings remain open even in holidays

Bookings for the Tata Motor`s Nano car continued in many parts of the country despite holidays of Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

The 400-and-odd Tata Motors dealerships and 51 Westside/Croma outlets which remained open through last week have added to this. Booking forms were accepted at counters set up by various banks at the dealerships. Preferred financiers also set up car loan counters here.

While it is still tough to work out the figure of total bookings, a single dealer from Western India said nearly 500 people had booked the car at his showroom.

According to a Tata Motors spokesperson, "The response has been good so far. We estimate that about three lakh people have visited our showrooms to see the Nano."

Online bookings have gained momentum with requests coming in from almost every nook and corner of India. Mr. Tufail Khan, Vice-President, Marketing of the online car portal Carwale.com (which offers an opportunity to book the Nano), said about 6,500 bookings were facilitated by the portal. It has also received booking requests from 430 cities in the last four days.

He said, "Of these bookings, about half were done through Net banking while others paid cheques. What is surprising is that we have been getting a good response from small cities which is against the traditional belief that only the top 10 cities give the best results. People from Patna, Kanpur and Jaipur have logged on to our site and booked the Nano."

Nano bookings remain open even in holidays According to Mr. Khan, most customers were not familiar with Internet banking and had to be given guidance. With 12 days to go before bookings close, Tata Motors could be up against a huge number of bookings, which means it will have to work out some way to meet delivery schedules. It has stated that the actual number will be made public only after April 25.
