Indian Railways decides to launch `book a taxi` service soon

Indian Railways has decided to launch its `book a taxi` service for passengers very soon. The passengers need to dial 139 to avail this service.

Indian Railways will provide this service at competitive tariffs. According to an Indian Railway official, "We have been striving to provide better and enhanced facilities through 139. After our plan of booking tickets over the phone was a success, we decided to provide premiere services to our clients."

As per the media report, the `book a taxi` service will soon be launched in about 25 cities across the country, including the capital. The official added, "Not only will this service be offered to passengers round-the-clock, we will also ensure they pay the actual charge incurred and are overcharged."

The Northern Railway has welcomed this move. The official stated, "We are trying to provide quality services to passengers before the Commonwealth Games 2010."

The round-the-clock enquiry service 139 is a call centre number, run by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), on which passengers can look for information about PNR status, arrival/departure of trains, seat availability, fare and accommodation.

The official further added, "In the near future, one will be able to book even a hotel by dialing 139. Passengers will also have an option to pick the cab of his choice."

Indian Railways decides to launch `book a taxi` service soon IRCTC will directly monitor the service so that passengers get taxis on time and do not end up paying more. The official further said that all taxis will be fitted with radio metres, which will be connected to the call centre.
