Ford India with Autocar India launches marathon drive across India

Ford India, in partnership with Autocar India, has started today a marathon 20,000 km drive across the country.

The `Ikon Cross Country Drive` will pass through 26 state capitals and three union territories of India and will take a total of 46 days to cover the entire distance.

Mr. Michael Boneham, President & Managing Director of Ford India, said that the effort would validate the performance claims of the company, as the cars will pass through all kinds of hostile terrains in gruelling hot summer. The journey will test the machine as it traverses through varied and extreme conditions.

The cars will pass through the scorching heat of Rajasthan to the freezing chill of the Himalayas, from rutted mountain trails to smooth expressways, from the traffic jam of Hosur Road to the runway-like Rajpath.

A two person crew from Autocar magazine will operate the drive, who will be rotated every six days. The team will monitor and log every parameter of the car`s performance including fuel consumption, tyre wear, and consumables like engine oil and brake fluid to establish its true-world fuel efficiency and cost of ownership after 20,000 km. KPMG has been appointed as independent auditors to validate the proceedings and the end result of the drive program.
