Militants kill 4 of Bihar family in Assam
Guwahati: Suspected National Democratic Front of Borland (NDFB) militants have gunned down a family of four from Bihar at No 1 Naharjan village, nearly 300 km north of Guwahati, in Assam`s Sonitpur district on Tuesday.

According to the sources, the attack took place after villagers denied to pay extortion money to the militants on Monday.

According to a police official, "The rebels stormed the house of Munna Pal (35), a milkman, in the wee hours and started firing from their AK-47s and other small weapons." Pal`s son, Pankaj (3), and brother, Tunna (30), died on the spot.

Hockey India dismisses charges of indifference towards Women`s team
New Delhi: Hockey India has dismissed on Tuesday the charges of indifference towards the women`s team that won the FIH Champions Challenge II in Russia. Hockey India has also promised to celebrate their victory when the players gather together.

Dismissing allegations that HI showed indifference to the team and did not send a single official to receive them at the airport, HI secretary general Mohammad Aslam said that on the contrary, the body was planning to felicitate them at a later date.

Aslam said, "I have congratulated the team and have been in constant touch with the team when they were in Kazan. We will call all the players once they assemble after their break and felicitate them."

Vivek Oberoi starrer `Prince of Thieves` is now `Prince it`s Showtime`
Mumbai: Vivek Oberoi`s upcoming film `Prince of Thieves` is re-titled to `Prince it`s Showtime`. The film`s title was oscillating between Prince of Thieves and simply Prince.

The actor is trying to boost his career with his next film with Ram Gopal Varma, `Rakta Charitra`. But, this film `Prince it`s Showtime` would probably arrive first, later this year.

There is a relevance to the `show-time` part, something that director Kookie Gulati reveals as he speaks about the title change. Kookie is the debutant film maker, who has directed quite a few popular music videos in the past.

Suppliers of `Kambakkht Ishq` lose Rs 57 lakh
Mumbai: The suppliers of much-awaited movie `Kambakkht Ishq` had to pay a big amount of Rs 57 lakh before its release. According to an investigation by BMC`s vigilance department, more than 819 boxes of colour positive films, used for copying the original film and distributing them across cinemas, was brought into the city without paying octroi duty.

The film stars Sylvester Stallone, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. Acting on a tip-off, a three-member vigilance team of Prakash Desai, Dinkar Waydande, and Walmik Bele visited Adlabs at Goregaon and found that trucks carrying 379 boxes of positive films arrived last week. An octroi of 5.5% of the total value of the positives is collected as octroi.

Aerobic activity helps to keep brain young: Study
A new research has revealed that Aerobic activity may help keep the brain young. The researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine conducted the study.

In the study published July 9 in the American Journal of Neuroradiology, physically active elderly people showed healthier cerebral blood vessels.

Researchers led by Elizabeth Bullitt, M.D., Van L. Weatherspoon distinguished Professor of neurosurgery, used non-invasive Magnetic Resonance (MR) angiography to study the number and shape of blood vessels in the brains of physically active elderly people, 7 men and 7 women, ages 60 to 80.

Chidambaram inaugurates NSG`s Mumbai hub
Mumbai: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has formally inaugurated the Mumbai hub of the National Security Guards (NSG) at Marol in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

Following the terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 26 last year, the decision to set up hubs of the NSG in different parts of the country was taken.

Speaking to the media after the inaugural ceremony, Chidambaram said, "The NSG hub will allow quick mobilisation of security forces in case of an emergency."

Ford India to launch small car on road by 2010
Mumbai: Ford India is planning to introduce its small car on the road by 2010, reports said.

At present, about 300 prototypes of the small car are on the road for testing. The small car is likely to have a localisation of around 85 per cent from the start to production stage. The car predominantly designed for the Indian market will have petrol and diesel engine options.

Until now, Ford has invested around USD 900 million in India. This includes USD 500 million for the new engine plant, the small car project and ramping up of the vehicle assembling capacity from 0.1 million units to 0.2 million units.

Pantaloon terminates JV with Planet Retail, Blue Foods
Mumbai: Pantaloon Retail India Limited (Pril) has decided to end its joint venture (JV) with Planet Retail Holdings and Blue Foods, which runs restaurant chains such as Bombay Blue, Noodle Bar and Copper Chimney. Pril had 49 per cent stake in Planet Retail Holdings.

Kishore Biyani, chief executive officer, Future Group stated, "Planet Retail has two businesses, which is apparel and sports. We are running the sports business and it has become a wholly-owned subsidiary. That`s why the JV with Planet Retail is being terminated."

Regarding the termination of the JV with Blue Foods, Biyani said, "Blue Foods has merged into a different entity, so the JV stands terminated."
